What Does It Take To Be Sucessful?

The answer to the above question is surprisingly simple: A Decision. A decision to be successful is all that it takes. Granted there are steps involved in that process, but it all starts with a simple decision.

Then there is the Be, Do, Have Principle. By the way, our society has it backwards, as Have, Do, Be. Imagine being the successful person, already, despite your "circumstances." What would that successful person do? What would they have? It all starts with "being." Society has it as "have" the thing, "do" the thing, "be" that person. Do you see the contrast in that? If we wait until we "have" whatever it is we are "waiting" for, we'll never get there!

When I worked full time for someone else, I was happy and successful; granted I was stressed out and broke, but I was happy because I knew who I was: A successful woman. Being self employed has taken that level of happiness and success much higher than I ever imagined possible.

The other concept I want to touch on here is our comfort zone. So often we are held back from success because real growth requires that we step out of our comfort zone. Remember, security is an illusion. There is no guarantee that you'll get across that street when you cross it. And yet it is required if you want to get somewhere. Sure there is risk involved, but isn't personal freedom worth all the risk in the world? For me, it is absolutely worth it. Now, I know I have been growing tremendously, because I am way out of my comfort zone.

I spent ten years in healthcare and fired my boss in October 2008 when I started my own business. Was I reasonable? Absolutely not! Am I responsible? You bet I am, because I am "at cause" over my life. Granted I could have "waited" until I started to produce income with my business, but that would have been living at the "effects" of life. Instead, I took unreasonable action and full responsibility for my life. No one can do that for you!

Looking back over my life thus far, I can see that major growth has occurred when I've made these bold decision. When I was 18 years young, I was going to go to art school in Milwaukee. Instead, I decided to follow the Grateul Dead. If I wouldn't have made that decision to be free, I wouldn't be the woman I am today. Traveling on the road wasn't easy, mind you, but it instilled in me an everlasting faith in the goodness and kindness of others. I know in my heart people are good, kind, and generous, because I experienced it first hand. I didn't know how I was going to eat that day, travel to the next big city, or where I would sleep that night, but somehow I survived and thrived. The universe provided and supported me. This time around, because what I am "being" is for the greater good of all, I know the universe will support me even further. I am grateful for the lessons I have learned in life and freedom I have had to choose that very thing: freedom.
